Most of the things we read aren’t books, or really a type of writing that we dwell on a lot. But it’s still important to think about how creators in our day and age tell us what they want us to know. Think about the writing that goes into an advertisement. So much thought goes into every word that we see, so we can understand, and hopefully (for the advertiser) want the product enough to part with our hard-earned dollars in order to gain what they have to offer. Something that may be even more important, yet we probably spend even less time thinking about it, is the language of design that’s used to communicate with us. Many people, especially those that are my age, take for granted the massive amount of work that goes into making a website that’s appealing to anyone. It’s difficult to make interfaces that make sense to people because technology is such a foreign concept to our basic monkey brains. That’s why designers have picked up on our tendencies to enjoy interfaces that look like something we could use in real life, that’s why you see so many interfaces with tabs, or buttons, and bars of varying uses. It may not be traditional and it may not even technically be language, but the way design and technology communicates with us today is some of the most important communication that happens today.
