The first chapter of the BBG introduced some of the most basic but important concepts of writing for this class. One particularly important point it made was how to consider and write for your specific audience. Something that many writers may neglect when they write is that the people reading their content are going to be very different from themselves, at least potentially. It’s important to acknowledge those differences so you can reach your audience and convey your message most effectively. For example, take addressing people who love video games and those who love classical music. While there may be some overlap in those audiences, there will probably be some notable trends, including age, possibly gender, as well as the things that that member of your audience may identify with outside of the genre that you’re writing about. You also have to consider the genre that you take advantage of to reach your target audience. For example, it will probably be difficult to reach an older audience on Snapchat or Twitter, whereas it may be significantly easier on Facebook, or even in person via flyers, posters, in person talks, etc to convey your message.
